Waste Management a fortune 50 corporation is holding it's employees in Kingston NY, hostage by not giving them a wage increase in over 20 months.
This dispute started in May 2008 and continues today. Waste Management has tried unsuccessfully two times to bust the Union that represents the employees for the past decade.
In May of 2008, Waste Management took positions at the bargaining table that would have required Laborers Local Union 108 and its members to go back in time. Upon conclusion of the negotiations between Laborers Local Union 108 and Waste Management, Local 108 put the contract offer to a vote of the membership in Kingston NY, These employees exercised their Democratic rights and rejected the offer.
Waste Management for the next 17 months put these workers through 2 union busting campaigns. On November 6, 2009 the workers voted by majority to keep Laborers Local Union 108 as its union.
During the past 20 months Waste Management has implemented several positions and has stripped away protections that these workers have had in place as employees of Waste Management for the past decade.
The men that collect the household and commercial waste in Ulster and Green counties of New York State have not engaged in a work stoppage and have continued to do their jobs during this 20 month period.
Waste Management has an obligation to live up to its Good Corporate Citizens Status and give their employees a much needed raise.
